It is T-minus (what does that mean anyway) 48 hours until AC Milan comes to play my Manchester United team at Old Trafford in Manchester, England. It will be HUGE!! This is the knockout phase, Round of 16, of the Champions League. Old Trafford was the site of AC Milan’s 2003 Champions League win in a penalty kick shootout. AC Milan will be without star Andriy Shevchenko after fracturing a cheek bone and eye socket in a match on Saturday. This match will be at 2:30 on ESPN 2 on Wednesday. I am trying to figure out how I am going to slip out of my Written Communication class to catch the game. This game will mark the return of the Red Devils star forward Rudd Van Nistelrooy, out due to injury since November. Jaap Stam will return to the stadium to play against his old team. I highly recommend everyone check out this game.
The other matchups in the knockout phase are Inter Milan vs. Porto, Juventus vs. Real Madrid, PSV vs. Monaco, Barcelona vs. Chelsea, Bayern Munich vs. Arsenal, Liverpool vs. Bayer Leverkusen, and Lyon vs. Werder Bremen. Two Americans that are competing in the Champions League are Landon Donovan (Leverkusen) and DaMarcus Beasley (PSV). Following is the team that United will probably field for Wednesday’s game.
Roy Carroll (GK)
Gary Neville Rio Ferdinand Mikael Silvestre Gabriel Heinze
Ronaldo Paul Scholes Roy Keane Ryan Giggs
Wayne Rooney Ruud Van Nistelrooy
