Louisville - Last Wednesday night at the Mockingbird Valley Indoor Soccer League, the Shooters upset the Red Army (I think they are Bosnian or Russian) 5-4. The Shooters had played the Red Army twice last season and both were close, physical games. This season the Shooters have two new players on the roster. In defense, they have signed the likes of "Ani" and in midfield a guy named "Del." The first half was controlled by the Shooters with a 2-0 lead. Towards the end of the half the Red Army started to take control and steal the motivation. Even though the Shooters were substituting out their men every 4 minutes, they were visibly tired.
In the second half, the Red Army started to go down all over the place like sacks of potatoes but the veteran referee wasn't buying it. All in all though there wasn't a single card given out by the referee. At 3-3 in the second half, both teams were looking for a goal to take the lead. The Red Army scored due to a lapse in the defense. At 4-3, the Shooters were motivated to step it up to tie and then push for the win. Del Shaffer, in midfield, ran down the left side and the Shooters had a 3v2 advantage. He mistouched the ball towards the wall and almost lost control. He then recovered, pulled the ball back towards his right foot, then crossed the ball through a defender's legs to the back side of goal where his teammate Chad was waiting to put the ball away. The goalie had no chance.
With four minutes left, it looked the Shooters had the motivation. They won a free kick on the left side of the box. Del immediately subbed into the game. He hit the ball quick across the top of the box and again found a teammate wide open who smacked the ball by the keeper. All the Shooters had to do now was to drop back, play defense, and hold off the Red Army for the final two minutes or so. The Red Army came at us with everything they had but were held off to suffer their first loss of the season thanks to the Shooters.
The Shooters and Red Army will not face off again unless it is in the last game of the season, the placement game.
The Shooters play again this Wednesday night at 9:00pm versus LIT. They are also looking forward to playing the seminary students' team, RED UNITED, on November 9th at 9:00pm.

Hey....yes, you are right. We are friends with Lorie King, who gave me Niki Tatum's blogsite as one to look at when I was starting my blog since Niki's lists tons of other blogs. I found your blog there in her long list of blogs!
I don't think that Albania has a pro team, but I'll find out. They are definitly huge soccer fans. You are kind of strange if you don't like soccer here.
So....do you plan on going through the Journeyman program with the IMB? Just curious, I was an ISCer for two years after my seminary days. I was past the age to be a Journeyman. But, they are basically the same program. I was in Albania and Bosnia for two years before returning as a career missionary with the IMB.
